Jacarandas
It must be spring because our streets are filled with the purple blossoms of Jacaranda trees! Lots of people hate the sticky residue that these blossoms leave on their cars. I don't care, the purple is invigorating...beautiful...glorious! Are there Jacaranda trees on your street?

These trees are beautiful, but I don't like the scent. It's odd. However, they are just lovely when they line the streets like that.
Gorgeous! We have them in our neighborhood and all in the City of Glendale too! They look so pretty all along Glenoaks Blvd.
Oh we don't have those over here but I wish we did! I love them, they remind me of my last vacation in San Miguel de Allende, there were such huge ones there and they were so amazingly fragrant. I think I want that as a perfume, or a room freshener - but bottled it probably wouldn't be the same.
We have them here on the central coast of CA too. It's one of my favorite trees -- has very cool seed pods as well.
I love these trees too. We have one across the street I admire and there are several I can see out my office window. Nothing like a little purple cheer.
I love jacaranda trees too! My parents have one in their garden back home in New Zealand. They go so beautifully with a bright blue sky which is something we don't get to see too often here in England!

Yup, we have those. I love them! The flowers fall onto our lawn so I didn't know they were sticky. When they fall our lawn looks lavender which I think is just the neatest thing.
Todd was telling me on Friday when he fly in that you can see the purple when you're on approach into LAX. I had no idea!
I too love 'em. And I don't give a rat's arse that they make a mess, b/c, after all, we *are* living in LA, quite probably the dirtiest city I've ever lived in. I'd rather be trashed by great purpley-purpleness than some other things I've found in our front yard...
Last summer some saplings were planted along my street. Imagine my delight when they turned out to be jacarandas!
Hands down, my favorite tree.
In The Village of Arroyo Grande, just before the hill to Paulding Jr. High (on the right side of the street), there is a HUGE one and I loved to watch it every season.

I love this time of year -- what a breathtaking sight it is to see the blanket of purple wherever you go. We had a huge jacaranda in the back yard when I was a kid, but my mom had it chopped down because of the mess. I loved making little dolls out of the blossoms and twigs...
Wasn't there some sort of initiative to plant jacarandas on the block at one point? My parents were all for it because Jacarandas are very common in South Africa.
I stumbled onto your blog when I was trying to look up the name of the FABulous purple trees here in Glendale. We just moved here a few months ago so I was UTTERLY deLIGHTed when they blossomed! And the blooms seem to last so long! Wow, I just grin and grin at their beauty every single day!
